Do you buy family Christmas pajamas every year?
Corey and I have always been big on the whole new-pajamas-at-Christmas thing, and over the years our little tradition has evolved quite a bit. When we were first married, it started as a compromise for how we’d do gifts – his family typically opened everything but Santa gifts on Christmas Eve, whereas my family saved it all for the big day. We decided a good middle ground would be to gift each other with a pair of new pajamas for Christmas and open them on Christmas Eve.
The problem, we quickly realized, was that we didn’t want them to be Christmas-y pajamas because then we really only felt like we could wear them for one night! And once we started having kids, we wanted cute Christmas pajamas for them and if we were going to enjoy them all season, we needed to get them early.
These days, we pick out matching family Christmas pajamas early in November and we all wear them all season long! And then, of course, on Christmas day we make it a point to all wear them together and get a good picture! It’s one of my very favorite traditions because it’s simple but brings us all a lot of joy.

We decided to go all out this year for the first time ever (because 2020, man) and we splurged on some Hanna Andersson pajamas for the entire family – including the dogs! We’re going to gift them to the boys on the day we put up our Christmas tree so we can wear them all season long.
I cannot wait. Is it too soon to put up my tree? Because, honestly, I’m tempted.
Whether you go big like we did this year, or just get some cute plaid pajama pants, or somewhere in-between, I’ve gotta say that if you’ve never tried the whole matching pajamas thing this is the year to do it. We’ve made it to the end of the year by the skin of our teeth and I’m determined to spend the next couple of months celebrating and seeking out joyful moments at every turn. We deserve it.
