2020 Holiday Gift Guide: For the Kids

It’s time for another holiday gift guide! I always love putting these together because I love gift shopping – this time around, we’re focused on gifts for the kids.

I don’t know how it works in your house, but in our family, the kids usually tend to request toys each year that fit whatever their interests are. Jackson loves LEGO, Minecraft, and all the other things most 6-year-old boys love. Grant loves anything with wheels. We’re happy to accommodate their interests when it comes to gifts, but I always like to also get a few gifts that encourage creativity, learning, and collaborative play. These are generally the toys that last year after year, and that both boys love playing with!

For the most part, I try to get them things that they’ll both be excited to play with and that I know they’ll use for a long time! So, this gift guide will mostly feature gifts that would appeal to boys and girls at a wide range of ages. I’ve broken it down by price, and most of the gifts are on the cheaper side, with a few special gifts you might want to splurge on!

  • Wooden Cash Register: So they can play grocery store in style.
  • Kinetic Sand Kit: It may be messy but you’ll enjoy playing with it almost as much as they do.

  • Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Kit: I love any activity that combines learning with fun, and this little coding set is such a great idea!
  • Crazy Forts: Everything you need (except some spare sheets) to make the most epic fort ever.
  • Maps Book: I could see Jackson pouring over this beautiful book before bed every night.
  • Planetarium Projector: The most fun gift for the space lover!
  • Camping Gear Set: This would be a great joint gift for all of your kids – bonus points if you let them camp out in the living room on Christmas night!
  • Snap Circuits: Jackson has one of these kits and brings it out to play with constantly. It’s a great learning activity and Corey loves to do it with him!
  • Weighted Blanket: Jackson is in love with his, and it’s perfect for the kid who struggles to fall asleep or has some anxiety!
  • Shifu Plugo Count: This STEM-focused game connects to your tablet and is good for a wide range of kids. I know Jackson would adore this one!

Gifts Under $75

Gifts Over $75

  • Large Playhouse: You won’t mind this thing being out all the time, and you know they’ll use it every day!
  • Jump & Slide Bouncer: I’ve been keeping an eye out for a used one of these for a while to no avail – maybe we should splurge this year?!
  • Radio Flyer Ultimate Family Wagon: We have a smaller version of this and Jackson (at almost 7) still gets just as excited as Grant does when we pull it out for a walk!

Subscription/Experience Gift Ideas:

  • Kiwi Crate: My boys have been getting these for about a year now and it’s always such a thrill for them when their boxes arrive! I’m always so impressed by how many activities are included within the boxes, and the educational component is always a win for me, too. We can’t recommend them enough.
  • Raddish: This is such a great idea for kids who love to cook, are willing to try new foods, and if you want to expand their taste buds a bit!
